SUMMARY:WholeMovement program in Rome - Module 1 2024
DESCRIPTION:Module 1A of WM’s Movement Analysis and Somatic Practice program  –  \nThe Laban/Bartenieff Movement System (LBMS) is the most widespread system in the world for understanding and analyzing the language of movement in expressive and functional terms. \nIt is a global system used to understand multiple aspects of human movement through observation and experience. The LBMS methodology incorporates a theoretical framework and specific terminology to describe movement. The system is used to identify\, represent and interpret both macro and micro patterns of human movement. The system also grounded in the experience of the moving body and movement practices are a cornerstone of the training. \nContact: Chiara Parisi \nhttps://www.chorondeprogettoeducativo.it/it/laban-bartenieff/lbms-corso-di-formazione-i-livello/

SUMMARY:International Symposium LBMS 2022
DESCRIPTION:Inspirees Institute and its partners are pleased to announce the International Symposium of LBMS (ISLBMS 2022)\, which will take place online April 1-3\, 2022. This symposium is dedicated to Rudolf Laban and Irmgard Bartenieff\, who established what is now identified as the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System (LBMS). The symposium will include other pioneers and practitioners who have continued to contribute and develop the work of its founders. \nAs LBMS is spreading out worldwide and has reached many fields to support the work of educators\, artists\, therapists\, researchers and practitioners\, there is constant need for sharing information and knowledge\, dialoguing\, professional training\, and community building. This has become even more evident in the challenging time of Covid which has impacted the education and practice of many students and colleagues in our field. As an embodiment-based discipline\, the legitimacy and efficacy of online learning and practicing continues to be discussed in our community. There has been a paradigm shift in our work requiring conscious and critical reflection\, open and constructive discussion\, and innovation and collaboration\, and full engagement of our students\, educators and colleagues. \nIn 2016\, Inspirees partnered with LIMS to run the CMA certification program based on LBMS in China. There are in total more than 60 students in three cohorts from China and abroad trained through the China program (one cohort has completed the full program\, another is halfway through and the third is just beginning). There are now 6 Chinese CMAs graduates. \nThis symposium invites all our students including: Inspirees LBMS\, dance therapy\, creative movement\, authentic movement programs\, as well as other students and colleagues in China and abroad. We hope to create with this event an international dialogue and collaboration forum and platform. \nThe format of the symposium is currently planned to be online due to the uncertainty of Covid. Dance/movement sessions will be included as well as lecture presentations to stimulate and relax body and mind of participants. \nThere are 5 major themes of the symposium: Education & Pedagogy\, Health & Therapy\, Arts performance\, New applications\, History & Theory. The keynotes (3)\, presentations (16)\, workshops (7)\, roundtable (1) featuring leading experts in our field\, as well as the younger talents and colleagues will address these 5 themes.

SUMMARY:WholeMovement Continuing Education Workshop in Space Harmony
DESCRIPTION:WholeMovement in collaboration with Inspirees Institute: Continuing Education Workshop in the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System: The Wholeness of Duality as seen and experienced through Space Harmony\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaster teachers and movement analysis training faculty Karen Studd and Cat Maguire in conjunction with Inspirees are pleased to offer an opportunity to deepen foundational knowledge of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System.  As teachers of WholeMovement\, Karen and Cat have developed LBMS course work which seeks to blend theory and practice and to link personal development to professional application. As an integral part of WholeMovement and its approach to teaching they are committed to the ongoing evolution of the theory and practice of the System.\n\nDuality is a foundational pattern. In the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System this is a construct seen throughout the entire system. Space Harmony is rich with patterns of duality including the “Duals” of the Geometry of the Platonic Solids. Which are used in the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System as models of the personal Space of the Kinesphere in mapping the directions of our actions. In this Whole Movement workshop\, starting with the Body Space Duality\, we will explore the Space Harmony Dualities in relation to Innersphere and Kinesphere and our movement experience and expression. We will also link this to the other Movement Themes of Stability Mobility and Function Expression.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis master workshop is designed to support those with prior knowledge and experience of LBMS including those in training (or graduates from) Inspirees DMT\, CM and LBMS programs. This workshop is also open for those who have exposure to the map of Space developed by Rudolf Laban who used the forms of the Platonic Solids to identify Spatial Directions and patterns of movement along pathways through the mover’s personal space. You are invited to deepen your awareness of and appreciation for the Space we contain – our Innersphere\, and the Space we are contained within – the personal space of the Kinesphere.\n\nJoin Karen and Cat in this LBMS workshop reviewing aspects of Laban’s Space Harmony practice\, primarily linked to patterns of duality including the “Duals” of the Geometry of the Platonic Solids. This workshop will focus on exploring how the theory and practice of Space Harmony can support both the observation and experience of movement in finding meaning. And how this in turn can support optimizing the capacity of movement both functionally and expressively.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKaren A. Studd\n\nKaren has a Master’s degree in Dance from University of Oregon and is certified in movement analysis through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS). Studd is also a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator through ISMETA (International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association). Studd is a founding member of WholeMovement\, a group of movement analysts working together to increase the visibility of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System (LBMS) worldwide. She also serves as a LIMS and Emove Program Coordinator and core faculty member and has taught LBMS in the US\, Canada\, Europe\, Mexico\, Israel and in China. In the USA she has taught for the University of Oregon\, the University of Wisconsin\, George Washington University\, The University of Maryland and George Mason University in its School of Dance\, where she was a tenured faculty for over twenty years.\n\nAs a teacher of LBMS\, she is focused on both personal and professional development through movement awareness training. Her primary interest is in promoting the understanding of the significance and importance of human movement across all disciplines. Studd is a co-author of EveryBody is a Body\, a text on the phenomenon of human movement now in its second edition.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCatherine (Cat) Maguire\n\nCat is a movement educator\, dance artist\, Certified Movement Analyst (CMA)\, Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME)\, and a master teacher of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System (LBMS). Cat has taught and co-coordinated Movement Analysis Certification Programs in the US\, Europe\, Mexico and China. Cat is also a collaborator and consultant for the Robotics\, Automation and Dance (RAD) Lab under the direction of Dr. Amy LaViers where she works with roboticists on embodied movement training and analysis to support the development of expressive robotic systems. SUMMARY:A WholeMovement approach to meeting the realities of online teaching and interactions
DESCRIPTION:Online Webinar. \nWe movement educators and somatic movement practitioners must meet this era of Covid-19 in how we work\, connect and interact.  Our shared reality\, in this moment in world history\, is that most of our classes\, meetings and other human interactions have moved to an online format.  In facing this new reality\, we must not simply applaud the technology that allows us to connect virtually\, nor bemoan its interactive limitations.  (It is not simply a matter of getting better at\, or more comfortable with\, using the technology.)  We need to meet the challenges the situation poses and then use the tools of embodied somatic education to create interventions and solutions to the problematic patterns and limitations of connecting to others online.  We need to understand what is and what is not possible through the online medium. Only then can we move forward to find our way to best practices in online experiences.  It is the presenters’ belief that the embodied movement community should be the leaders in sharing this knowledge with other communities who have moved to online interactions.  We need to inform people of the potentials as well as the pitfalls and guide them in how to be mindful of patterns (ones that have emerged\, as well as patterns that are yet to come as more online and hybrid approaches replace or coincide with “old school” interactions in a shared time and space  environment). The WholeMovement presenters will focus on how the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System (LBMS) can identify both positive and problematic patterns of working online\, and model ways to address and adapt to these patterns. \n  \nPresenters \nWholeMovement members and Certified Movement Analysts (CMA): \n\nLaura Cox\nEsther Geiger\nCat Maguire\nKaren Studd
